A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of riding with the Ellensburg police department. I honestly thought I was going to sit in a car and be bored, responding to old people who complain about loud noises. The experience was actually entirely different.
I rode with Officer Mario Magnotti, who has been with the Ellensburg police for 3 1/2 years. We started at 7 and ended up responding to a few interesting calls: a domestic disturbance, a daughter who had to have Officer Magnotti escort her to get her items from her mothers house, and we stopped multiple cars. I even got to see how Officer Magnotti drives when he turns the lights on!
One thing that seemed to run in common with a lot of the calls he got: the perpetrators all apparently smelled bad. I feel like someone should do a study and see if many criminals also smell bad. Everytime Officer Magnotti got in the car he would use lots of hand sanitizer to make sure he was clean. I thought it was interesting.

Interesting observation-- though I bet it'd be hard to convince a scientist to go around smelling criminals.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the gov'mit should start passing out free celebrity scents. That would solve all of our crime problems.... maybe not. If I had to smell Britney Spears all day long, I'd probably be more likely to commit murder.
that sounds fun!!
ReplyDeleteim going on my ride along soon. i hope i get a saturday or friday so some drama can go down
Mario is definitely the man. I had the same guy as my police ride along. He told me this story about how some drunk driver actually t-boned him and didnt even get any jail time!
ReplyDeleteCrazy how some people can get off so easy.
